THE FOUNDER
About Jenna Zell
I’m a nervous system educator, Medical Qigong practitioner, and the creator of The Calm Method.
My work began with adults—helping people regulate their bodies through breathwork and mindful movement. I saw firsthand how powerful these tools were in reducing anxiety, improving focus, and creating a sense of calm from within.
Over time, parents began bringing their children to me—kids who were struggling with anxiety, sadness, overwhelm, or difficulty regulating their emotions. As I worked with them, I realized something important:
When these tools are simplified, children can learn them just as effectively—and often even faster.
At home, I began using the same techniques with my own son, who was navigating big emotions, especially anger. Through consistent, simple practices, I watched him begin to shift—learning how to pause, breathe, and move through what he was feeling.
That experience became the foundation for The Calm Method.
Today, I bring these tools into classrooms to help students build emotional awareness, regulate their nervous systems, and return to a calm, focused state—without disruption, overwhelm, or complicated instruction.
My approach is simple, practical, and designed for real life—so both students and teachers can use it with ease.
The Calm Method Story
The Calm Method began with a simple intention—help children feel better in their bodies and emotions. My mother first had the idea to create something for kids. At the time, I had already been working with adults using breathwork and mindful movement to support nervous system regulation. I was seeing how powerful these tools were in helping people move through stress, anxiety, and overwhelm. Naturally, parents began bringing their children to me—many of whom were struggling with anxiety, sadness, or emotional overwhelm. As I started working with them, I saw something clear: these same techniques, when simplified, were incredibly effective for kids. Around the same time, I began using these tools at home with my own son, who was 5 and having difficulty regulating his emotions—especially anger. Through simple breath patterns and movement, I watched him begin to shift, calm, and respond differently. That’s when it clicked. If this could help my child—and the children I was working with—it could help so many more. The Calm Method was created to give children simple, accessible tools to understand their emotions, regulate their bodies, and return to a place of calm—whether at home or in the classroom.

The Origin
The Calm Method™ was born from a simple observation: children cannot learn when their nervous systems are dysregulated. In today's overstimulated classrooms, students are expected to sit still, focus, and absorb information while their bodies are in a state of stress, anxiety, or overwhelm.
Traditional classroom management approaches often focus on behavior modification without addressing the underlying physiological state. Teachers are left feeling frustrated, students struggle to engage, and the learning environment suffers.
We knew there had to be a better way—a method that honored the body's natural regulation systems while being practical enough for busy teachers to implement daily.

My Experience with Children
I began working with children at Catholic Memorial School, where I led mindful movement and meditation sessions for students.
What started as a small initiative quickly showed measurable impact. In collaboration with a statistics class of high school students, we tracked outcomes and observed noticeable improvements in focus, emotional regulation, and overall classroom presence.
Alongside this work, I’ve continued supporting children through my wellness studio, where I work one-on-one with kids navigating anxiety, overwhelm, and big emotions.
As a mother, this work is also deeply personal. I use these same tools at home, giving me both a professional and real-life understanding of what children need to regulate, reset, and feel safe in their bodies.

Why This Matters
Children today are navigating more stimulation, pressure, and emotional overwhelm than ever before—but most are never taught how to regulate what they’re feeling.
When a child is dysregulated, it doesn’t just affect them—it impacts the entire classroom. Focus decreases, transitions become harder, and learning is disrupted.
The Calm Method gives students a simple, structured way to reset in the moment.
Through short, guided practices using breath and movement, children learn how to:
-
Recognize what they’re feeling
-
Calm their bodies
-
Return to a focused, ready-to-learn state
These are not abstract concepts—they are practical tools children can use in real time, whether they are feeling frustrated, anxious, overwhelmed, or shut down.
For teachers, this means fewer disruptions and smoother classroom flow.
For students, it means building emotional awareness, confidence, and self-regulation skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
The Calm Method matters because it teaches children something they will use for the rest of their lives:
